Dog College Apparel: How to Choose the Right Size
Author: Lisa Mason
College students can advertise their school spirit and dress up their pet with dog college apparel. You can dress your pooch in a variety of outfits such as sweaters, jerseys and even cheerleader dresses. To keep your dog safe when wearing doggie apparel and to ensure comfort it's important that you choose the right size for your pet.
When ordering dog college apparel for your pet, you'll need to take some measurements. This will help to ensure you get the right size the first time so you don't have to return the item for a different size. Sizes will usually range from x-small to x-large.
Before you place your order, look at the sizing chart provided by the manufacturer that made the garment. These will provide you with the measurements for each size offered. Some will provide you with the length of the back and others may have more information for you to use to help you size your dog apparel properly. So measuring your dog before you order will help you to be sure to get the right size.
When measuring your dog's back, you'll need to measure from the base of the head where the collar sits all the way to the base of the tail. The base of the tail is the area where the tail attaches to his back. Compare this measurement to the chart provided to determine what size garment to purchase.
Some charts may offer chest and neck sizes to help you get a better fit. If the manufacturer provides this information for you, measure these areas as well.
When measuring the chest area you'll need to measure the circumference of the dog's chest at its widest point. This usually falls right behind the dog's front legs. When taking your measurements you'll need to consider your dog's girth. This is usually associated with chest measurements because girth is the extra bulk a dog may have due to muscle or extra fur.
When ordering sweaters with turtlenecks you'll need to measure the dog's neck to make sure this part of the garment is not going to be too tight.
Sometimes, your dog's measurements will fall in between two sizes. When this happens, it's best to order the larger size instead of the smaller one. It would be better for the garment to be slightly larger than your pet's size than it would be for it to be smaller. If it's slightly larger, it will give him room to move, provided it's not too loose but if it's slightly smaller, it might be uncomfortable.
When the sizing is right, your dog can feel great in his new dog clothing!
